What is the Personhood Pledge?
During the 2020 general election, Personhood SC asked all South Carolina state senators and representatives to sign and return a pledge to support and vote for personhood bills S 381 (senate bill) and H 3568 (house bill). This pledge was also sent to candidates for those offices.
The pledge has several purposes.
- It provides an ongoing tally of senators and representatives who are committed to support and vote for the bills.
- It lets supporters of the Personhood amendment project know which senators and representatives have not yet committed to supporting the bills, so they know where to concentrate their efforts.
- The pledge serves as a clear public statement of which legislators are truly committed to protecting innocent human life from fertilization onward — and which legislators are not.
